The discovery of a novel RNA Continent
through comprehensive analyses of mammalian transcriptomes

The FANTOM Consortium centered Genome Exploration Research Group discovered 23000 non-coding RNA (ncRNA) more than 100 known ncRNA, analyzing comprehensively the RNA that is produced in cell. Furthermore there are more than 180000 promoters in genome and 31,422 sense-antisense (S/AS) made of double stranded strands more than the known amount.
The research results were published in the U.S. science journal Science on September 2, 2005. The information will be publicly released on the DDBJ of National Institute of Genetics (http://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/, http://www.ddbj.nig.ac.jp/whatsnew/050124-e.html) and on RIKEN website (http://fantom3.gsc.riken.jp/)
